All for one
“For each patient, the multidisciplinary
team carefully weighs the various
treatment options and discusses
the appropriate options with each
patient and their families,” Dr. Harris-
Henderson says. “We acknowledge and
respect that there is a living, loving,
fighting woman at the center of each
diagnosis, and we’ll pull out all the stops
to help her in that fight.”
Medical
oncologists
These specialists diagnose and
treat cancer with chemotherapy
and hormones. Their medical
guidance helps patients make
decisions throughout their
cancer journeys.
Radiation oncologists
These specialists determine which
radiation treatments will most benefit
a patient. Options include standard
daily radiation, hypofractionated radiotherapy
(which offers a shorter course of treatment), or
accelerated partial-breast irradiation (APBI).
Courses of treatment with APBI
can last as little as a week.
Breast surgeon
This is one of the first physicians to
evaluate recently diagnosed patients.
Surgery may include just a biopsy or
more involved procedures, such as a
lumpectomy or mastectomy.
Nurse navigator
The nurse navigator journeys
with patients, coordinating
all of their services, answering
questions, and providing
support each step of the way.
