Methodist Dallas’
multidisciplinary
breast program leaves
no stone unturned
A
breast cancer diagnosis can be overwhelming.
That’s why the Breast Center at Methodist Dallas
Medical Center approaches it from all
sides, customizing a treatment plan for each woman.
“Our approach to patient care truly is multidisciplinary,”
says Martin Koonsman, MD, breast surgeon and director
of the Breast Center. “All of the physicians involved will
evaluate her up front on the same day, and then we’ll
present her with a well-thought-out multidisciplinary
treatment plan.”
The care team meets weekly to review each patient’s
case and progress, ensuring that patients receive
treatment plans tailored to their type and stage of
breast cancer.
“With multiple specialists involved in the treatment
discussion, it’s like the patient is getting a second,
third, and fourth opinion at once,” says Kesha Harris-
Henderson, MD, radiation oncologist on the medical
staff at Methodist Dallas. “We are able to collaborate
on the best treatment program to eradicate the cancer,
balancing our medical recommendations with the
concerns for many women to maintain their family life
and careers during this challenging time.”
And just who makes up the multidisciplinary team at
the Breast Center?
