Advancing
health
care in North Texas
A new building, advancements in technology, and compassionate patient
care took center stage for Methodist Dallas Medical Center in 2014:
■
■
In July, Methodist Dallas opened
the Charles A. Sammons Tower,
dedicated to trauma, emergency,
neurosciences, and critical care
services, and announced that
the American College of
Surgeons and the state of Texas
had designated the hospital as
a Level I Trauma Center — the
highest level available.
■
■
We became the first hospital in
the country to receive The Joint
Commission’s disease-specific
care certification for pancreatic
surgery and the first in Texas for
pancreatic oncology.
■
■
We expanded our list of minimally
invasive procedures performed
with the da Vinci® Surgical System,
becoming the first hospital in the
region to perform a Single-Site™ total hysterectomy and to perform a fully
roboticWhipple procedure for patients with pancreatic cancer.
■
■
We launched
QuickER.org , an online tool that allows patients to select
their emergency department (ED) treatment times and wait in the
comfort of their homes before going to the hospital.
■
■
Methodist Dallas became the second hospital in Dallas County to offer the
Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Program. Our ED has specially certified
nurses on staff 24/7 to respond to victims of sexual assault.

Forming
the physicians
of tomorrow
For decades, Methodist Health System
has trained the next generation of medical
professionals, and the proceeds from
this year’s Robert S. Folsom Leadership
Award went toward that very endeavor.
Currently, Methodist has four residency
programs and four fellowship programs,
all of which are thriving and growing.
Bobby B. Lyle was honored as the
recipient of this year’s Folsom Award for
his commitment to education and other
philanthropic endeavors in North Texas
and beyond. An event in his honor on
Nov. 19 raised more than $1.5 million
toward graduate medical education.
