the limits of the human hand
The latest evolution in surgical and
robotics technology, the da Vinci®
Surgical System, is now available
at Methodist Charlton Medical
Center. Robot-assisted surgery
with da Vinci allows surgeons to
operate with enhanced vision,
precision, dexterity, and control.
“With da Vinci, we can operate
through 1- to 2-centimeter
incisions,” says Anil Tibrewal, MD,
general surgeon at Methodist
Charlton, who performed the
hospital’s first da Vinci procedure.
“For most patients, that means
significantly less pain, fewer
complications, less scarring, a
shorter hospital stay, and a faster
recovery than they’d experience
with a traditional open surgery.”
The da Vinci robot can be
used for gynecologic, urologic,
colorectal, cardiothoracic, and
general surgery procedures.
Dr. Tibrewal emphasizes that
surgeons are in full control of the
robotic system.
“Da Vinci translates surgeons’
hand movements into smaller,
more precise movements using
tiny instruments,” he says, adding
that surgeons have a better
view of the surgical field with
da Vinci, which features a
magnified, 3-D, high-definition
vision system.
Is your
summer
being
stolen?
Pins and posts, tweets and tags — social media offers a number of ways
to share slices of your life with others.
But for some people, social media has become a place to compare
life experiences rather than celebrate them. They may perceive that they
are somehow missing out on greater life events and better fortunes.
Psychologists call it the fear of missing out.
If this problem starts creeping into your summer, remember to:
