A summer injury Q&A
Q:
You’re out on a beautiful Saturday morning hike at Cedar Hill State Park, and you turn your ankle on a
tree root. It’s pretty sensitive to weight, and once you arrive home and get your boot off, you notice that it’s
swelling and bruised. Your regular doctor’s office isn’t open on Saturday. Should you head to the emergency
department (ED)?
A:
Not necessarily. “If you think the injury is a sprain or tear, the QuickCare Clinic at Methodist Charlton Medical
Center is a great alternative to the ED,” says Adeola Darden, MD, family medicine physician at the QuickCare
Clinic. “No appointment is necessary, and X-ray services are available on-site. However, if you think your injury is
a break, head straight to the ED.”
