Methodist Health System | Methodist Mansfield Medical Center | Shine | Spring 2014 - page 4

Hearts just got a whole lot happier at Methodist Mansfield Medical Center,
which was recently awarded Cycle IV Chest Pain Center accreditation by
the Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care. This recognition honors the
hardworking and passionate staff members who continue to treat heart
attack patients compassionately and efficiently every day through quick
responses in the cardiac catheterization lab, shorter hospital stays, and
enhanced quality of care.
Accomplished through a collaborative effort with the emergency
department, cardiac cath lab, and inpatient nursing, this new accreditation
means that patients can expect a shorter door-to-balloon time. Door-to-
balloon time is measured from the time a patient arrives at the emergency
department to when the blocked artery is opened, restoring blood flow to
the heart.
“We want to exceed the standards of care every day,” says Karen
Yates, RN, BS, CEN, LP, cardiac coordinator at Methodist Mansfield.
“We’re passionate about saving lives; that’s really what motivates our team.”
