HISTORICAL EXPANSION:
As one of the primary providers of adult trauma care
in Dallas, Methodist Dallas has been a leader in pioneering intensive care and
emergency services. The critical care tower expansion will add exceptional clinical
services and facilities to support this important work.
At
Methodist Health System, we’re all
about commitment.
“Providing high-level trauma and
critical care to our community is part of
our mission of service,” says Stephen L.
Mansfield, PhD, FACHE, Methodist
president and CEO.
As part of our commitment to serving
the community, Methodist Dallas and
Methodist Charlton Medical Centers are
making strides to enhance facilities and
care quality.
Methodist Dallas
Methodist Dallas will commit $108 million
to expand the emergency, critical care,
and surgery departments with a new six-
story trauma and critical care center. The
248,000-square-foot tower will include
58 new emergency room beds, six trauma
suites, eight surgical suites, and a 36-bed
critical care unit and can expand to
11 stories. Construction will begin this
summer with completion in summer 2014.
As a level II trauma center, Methodist
Dallas is a crucial part of the Dallas
County trauma safety net. The hospital
provides a high level of tertiary-care
services, including adult trauma
care, multi-organ transplant services,
nationally rated high-risk infant care,
and neurocritical care.
“As one of the primary providers of adult
trauma care in Dallas County, Methodist
Dallas has been a leader in pioneering
intensive care and emergency services,”
Dr. Mansfield says.
Methodist Dallas has recently
been surveyed as fully compliant
with all requirements by The Joint
Commission, the leading accreditor of
health care organizations in America,
and by the Centers for Medicare
& Medicaid Services, the federal
agency administering these programs.
Among many clinical accolades and
achievements, Methodist Dallas is:
w
w
One of Texas’ leading teaching and
referral centers

A Certified Primary Stroke Center
w

Home to a level III neonatal intensive
care unit.
Methodist Charlton
Space and services aren’t the only things
expanding at Methodist Charlton. The
growing facility is also getting high
marks for quality. The Joint Commission
named Methodist Charlton one of the
nation’s top performers on key quality
measures — recognition awarded to just
14 percent of The Joint Commission–
accredited hospitals and critical access
hospitals that report core measure
performance data.
Along with investing $8.5 million
to add 36 new patient care beds to the
recently opened patient care tower,
relocating the postcoronary intervention
unit at a cost of $2.8 million to support
expanded cardiology services, and
spending $16 million to support the
addition of a specialty care unit, Methodist
Charlton is also designated a Certified
Primary Stroke Center by the American
Stroke Association and recently began its
open heart surgery program.
